This past week, the Blue Jays played at their stomping grounds in Toronto at the Rogers Centre and had much success there. They faced the Reds and Yankees in which they swept Cincinnati and took 2 of 4 from New York. Below are the game recaps, the player of the week, the video of the week and Blue Jays news of the week. May 29th vs Cincinnati Reds

Won: 17-2        Record: 24-27

SP/WP: Marcus Stroman- 6.0 innings pitched, 2 earned runs, 5 hits and 5 strikeouts

BLUE JAYS PLAY OF THE GAME

There was A LOT of plays to choose from in the Blue Jays 17-2 win where they put up 23 hits, the 3rd highest in franchise history but the Blue Jays Play of the Game goes to Troy Tulowitzki for hitting a grand slam in the 3rd.

May 30th vs Cincinnati Reds

Won: 6-4         Record: 25-27

SP: JA Happ-4.0 innings pitched, 2 earned runs, 3 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts

BLUE JAYS PLAY OF THE GAME

In the 4th, Josh Donaldson smashes a 2 run bomb to the upper deck to tie it up for Toronto at 2.

 

May 31st vs Cincinnati Reds

Won: 5-4         Record: 26-27

SP: Mike Bolsinger-5.1 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 4 hits, 4 walks and 7 strikeouts

In the bottom of the 5th, catcher Luke Maile hits his 2nd HR of the season, a 2 run shot to center.

 

June 1st vs New York Yankees

Kendrys Morales puts the first run on the board for Toronto in the 7th by belting a solo home run to right, score 9-1 New York.

BLUE JAYS PLAY OF THE GAME

Josh Donaldson brought the rain in the Blue Jays 7-5 victory smashing 2 solo home runs in the 1st and 6th inning.

 

June 3rd vs New York Yankees

Loss: 7-0    Record: 27-29

SP/LP: Joe Biagini-7.0 innings pitched, 1 earned runs, 3 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts

BLUE JAYS PLAY OF THE GAME

As the Jays get shutout, there was literally no notable plays of the game. Biagini got the loss but was pretty good going 7 strong innings only allowing 1 earned run and fanning 6 but thanks to Grilli…he picked up the L.

 

June 4th vs New York Yankees

BLUE JAYS PLAY OF THE GAME

Josh Donaldson hit a game winning solo home run (ironically on Josh Donaldson bobble head day!) in the 8th inning to win it for Toronto 3-2.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Fresh off his return to the Blue Jays, third basemen Josh Donaldson is the Player of the Week. He’s been cranking out homers and has quickly regained his momentum offensively.  On June 2nd, JD had a 2 home run night. Keep the homers coming, JD!

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

On May 29th vs the Reds, the Blue Jays DESTROYED them winning 17-2 with 23 hits. It was the 3rd most hits in a game in franchise history and highest number of runs scored in a game this season. Here’s a short recap video of the game.

 

BLUE JAYS NEWS (MAY 29TH-JUNE 4TH)

  • May 30th- JA Happ activated from 10 day DL; pitcher Domonic Leone optioned to AAA Buffalo.
  • Mat Latos was released by the Buffalo Bisons organization.
  • On June 1st, pitcher Mike Bolsinger was DFA’d to AAA, call up pitcher Leonel Campos.
  • On June 4th, Devon Travis left the game after getting hit by a pitch in the wrist. No word yet whether he’s going on the DL but it could be likely that’s where he’s heading.
